10 Things To Do in the Morning (besides sleeping!)

Things to do in the morning

Are you a morning person? I know I was most certainly not.

Well, that was until I began to realise that I spend wayyy to much time sleeping and not enough time making the most of the early hours of the day! I think a lot of us spend at least an hour of our precious morning in bed instead of getting up and productive. I mean, sure my bed is really comfortable with those warm bed sheets, fluffy pillow and ahhhh that snuggly blanket…(okay, I’m getting a bit too ahead of myself). But come on! Just think about all the wonderful things you could be doing in the morning – making the most of that fresh morning breeze, getting active or soaking up the rising sun.

I’ve realised that there are so many things that can be done in the morning – things that you might be missing out on if you sleep in. So today, I’ve made a list of these things to share with you!

Let’s begin, shall we?

1. Watching the sunrise.

An oh-so-very obvious idea, but still a good one. Sunrise is a truly beautiful sight and might help you find some inspiration to get you going throughout the day. Not to mention, it’s perfect to get that daily source of vitamin D. Depending on where you are, sunrise might be very early in the morning, but trust me, it’s totally worth waking up for!

Get your brain awake and stimulating! Write about absolutely anything that comes to your mind. Whether it’d be a recount of past events or a fictional story you made up – just let your hand flow and get all those ideas down on paper. It really doesn’t matter if your writing is good or not, just go with it! Who knows, maybe your brightest ideas are made in the morning.

Why not ditch that social media and pick up a classic book to keep you entertained in the morning? This can also get your brain stimulated and help you focus.

Here’s a little picture of some of my books from my shelf, just waiting in line to be read. 😀

One of the things I loooove doing in the morning these days. Simply grabbing a camera and walking around my backyard taking random photos really gets me inspired and excited for the day. I especially love taking photos of my dog and other plants in the garden. Simply being outside makes me feel really good! Even if you don’t have a backyard, you can always take photos indoors too. Everything can be captured in a lens – that’s the beauty of a camera.

I took this photo a while ago, back when the leaves were still bright and colourful…

Listening to iTunes radio can be lots of fun! You can discover a lot of new songs and download them. Music just makes you feel good and makes your day a whole lot brighter. Some other places you might find new music might be on Youtube, Spotify http://www.thehothits.com and http://www.billboard.com.

Like writing, just let this be completely free and uncoordinated. Who cares if you’re not an artist? Drawing is fun, especially if you don’t need to think about it!

I don’t even know what it is that I drew here… Maybe an octopus or something? 😀

One way to make you feel control over your life is to write down your goals and to do lists! You can decorate it with all fancy pens like I did and be sure to stick to it throughout the day. Make sure your goals are realistic and achievable so you don’t get stressed or disappointed!

IMG_04118. Cooking

Treat yourself (and maybe even impress your family) with a gourmet breakfast that you cooked! Some breakfast menu ideas could include: eggs (scrambled, poached, fried or boiled), bacon, toast, pancakes, waffles, hot chocolate and milkshakes…You could even try my Coconut Waffles recipe or Nutella milkshake that I made in one of my previous posts! IMG_95919. Doing some yoga or mediation

Simply waking up a few minutes earlier in the morning to do this can make you feel a lot more alive and peaceful. Bring a yoga mat outside and feel the sun on your skin and breeze in your face as you stretch or meditate. It feels really good!

10. Last of all, getting active!

Simply put on those running shoes and go go go! You could walk your dog, go skipping or jogging around the neighbourhood. It’s always good to get some exercise into your day before you begin doing something serious.

So there you have it, ten simple things to do in the morning! There’s so much to do in the morning, you just have to have the will to do it. These days I’m trying to wake up a little bit earlier to squeeze in a little bit of these things into my day before I have to leave for school. It’s definitely worth it!

I hope I’ve inspired to get out of bed in the morning and make the most of your day! See you next time,

xx, miss caly
